Owner and Woodlands resident Karri Li has worked in hospitality for 15 years but was venturing into ownership for the first time, with what she described as an “amazing business”.

She recruited front of house manager Davide Cappati, who moved to Australia from Italy four years ago, and previously ran a cafe in Turin.

He grew up working at his family’s restaurants in Italy and Spain, and his Perth resume features the likes of Caversham House and Hyatt Regency Perth.

“It’s very nice to work for big companies but I like to go back to a single business,” he said.

“It’s a very good vibe at the moment.”

Though the chef was a “proud Italian”, Mr Cappati said the menu would also offer some western fusion dishes.

“At the end of the day we are in Australia,” he said.

“Our environment is going to be like a festival.

“Our goal is to make people feel welcome.”

The “special” ocean view from the restaurant balcony is certainly a drawcard but he was confident diners would return for the food and service.

“It’s about good quality and standard but at the same time, a nice friendly environment,” he said.

“We tried to do something different to normal restaurants.”

Visitors are streaming back to Scarborough Beach following opening of the redevelopment and Mr Cappati was keen for La Capannina to complement existing venues.

“Now with the redevelopment it has got such a boost and businesses should take advantage,” he said.

“It’s going to be one of the best locations in Australia.”
