Nine-year-old raises $76,000 for children

The nine-year-old was recognised for his community work and volunteering.

As a four-year-old, he wanted to help other children and has raised more than $76,000.

Last year Scott walked 42km for Telethon in 11 hours.

Resident Oliver Lovelle was also nominated for his 53 years of active community involvement and volunteering in community organisations including local schools, Neighbourhood Watch, Lions Clubs, Scouts and RSL clubs.

The Emanon Group was recognised in the category of community group or event for volunteering to the Stirling Women’s Centre for more than 27 years.

The group works tirelessly to provide and collect donations of clothing, blankets and household items for the centre.

They also help with the donation of furniture once the families are relocated into homes, as well as providing food donations and gifts for the children at Christmas time.

Two Volunteer of the Year Awards were awarded to Carmel Byrne for her work in caring for her local park and Gail Edwards for her for her 10 years as a City volunteer.

Mayor Giovanni Italiano said it was an honour to meet all the nominees in this year’s awards.

“The time and personal effort they devote goes above and beyond the usual community participation and I have the highest respect for them all,” he said.
