Nollamara: Father Gatt ready to take helpline calls again this Christmas

Kate LeaverStirling Times

NOLLAMARA priest Father Michael Gatt took Mother Theresa’s words to heart when she said “loneliness is the poverty of the western world” and will provide a free hotline for those in need.

The former St Kieran’s Tuart Hill priest will be beside the phone answering calls to the ‘Gattline’, a free 24 hour hotline.

Father Gatt said over years of running the helpline, he had dealt with a wide range of issues in the community.

“My team of helpers and I have dealt with many difficult issues over the years, ranging from loneliness, to domestic violence,” he said.

“With 110 calls during the Christmas period last year, I am again preparing for a busy time.”

Father Gatt said calls could often be challenging but as a former air force man, he felt capable of handling difficult situations.

The helpline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 9440 5379.
