Man charged over gel blaster gun fired at cyclist

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly shooting a cyclist in North Beach with a gel blaster toy gun.

Scarborough Police charged the 25-year-old Mirrabooka man with possessing an unlicensed firearm, discharging a firearm to cause fear to the public and common assault over the February 13 incident.

It is alleged the offender was a passenger in a silver Subaru travelling south behind a cyclist on Marmion Avenue between Beach Road and Reid Highway.

He pointed the gel blaster firearm out the window and discharged several rounds of the pellets at the victim, hitting him in the face and body.

The cyclist was alarmed but did not receive serious injuries.

He saw the gun nozzle sticking out of the car’s passenger side window as it passed him and was able to record the vehicle’s registration number.

The accused attended Scarborough police station on March 13 and handed in the gun, which will likely be destroyed, and will face court on April 12.
