MORE than 8000 people paid their respects to Australian veterans at the North Beach Returned and Services League (RSL) Anzac Day ceremony.

North Beach RSL Secretary Rob Sweet said the Charles Riley Memorial Reserve ceremony attracted a bigger crowd than expected.

“It was a great response from the public and a bigger than expected crowd,” he said.

“The ceremony was followed by a gun fire breakfast at the North Beach Bowling Club.”
