Queensland’s Northcliffe SLSC was crowned national champion ahead of New South Wales club Manly, with Mooloolaba third.

Northcliffe’s Shannon Eckstein equalled Trevor Hendy’s record of six Australian Ironman championships with what he described as ‘the perfect race’ on Sunday.

Eckstein’s younger brother Caine won silver for the first brother 1-2 in the history of the event.

North Burleigh’s Liz Pluimers realised a life-long dream to win her first ever National Ironman crown ahead of Northcliffe pair Harriet Brown and former Commonwealth Games swimming gold medallist Rebecca Creedy.
