Parklet captures snapshot of Inglewood

A REFLECTION of Inglewood has been captured in City of Stirling’s first parklet on Dundas Road.

The City engaged East Perth design team reSPOKE to create a parklet in front of Finlay and Sons café, which was unveiled last week.

Making use of car bays, the parklet is an extension of the footpath to provide a creative space for the public.

ReSPOKE director Kirsten Masgai said the design criteria was to reflect the Inglewood community and the architecture.

“The whole design is based around the Australian backyard vernacular,” she said.

“It reasonably lends itself to the Californian bungalow-style housing which is found throughout Inglewood.”

The parklet features a swing bench for all ages and a Jenga-style seating arrangement.

“The swing chair is like a swing chair you would find on a verandah,” Ms Masgai said.

The City commissioned Respoke to design and fabricate the new mobile Dundas parklet for use in and around the Inglewood Town Centre.

City of Stirling is currently developing the second Inglewood parklet, which will be at the corner of 7th Avenue and Beaufort Street.
