A STUDENT from a Mt Lawley school has won an award recognising her volunteering efforts.

The Zonta Club of Perth Northern Suburbs presented Perth College Year 12 student Samantha Hackman with its 2018 Women in Public Affairs Award at a ceremony in Wembley this month.

Samantha was commended for having shown great leadership by educating and assisting her peers regarding mental health, and is also a member of the United Nations Youth WA organisation.

She believes that women should look out for each other.

“Women are bombarded by social media with societal expectations,” she said.

“Women need to lead by example and not worry about ‘fitting in’ or how they look.

“Our priority should be integrity of character and what one stands for.”

Samantha received $1000 to help achieve her goals, including plans to study a Bachelor of Arts at university, focusing on political science, international relation and agricultural science.
