IAN Cant has been sporting long hair and a bushy beard for nearly a decade but he is about to change that – in the name of charity.

The 71-year-old Balcatta resident will shave his hair and beard off this month to raise money for Cancer Council.

Mr Cant’s parents died of cancer and his brother and sister were both diagnosed with the disease within the past five years.

“Cancer is such an insidious disease. Nobody’s immune from getting cancer,” he said.

Mr Cant is aiming to raise $1000 and has so far raised nearly $350 thanks to residents and staff at the Juniper St Andrew’s aged care facility where he lives.

Staff at the facility’s hair salon will be doing the honours on November 28.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Mr Cant said.

“I’m 71 and it’s about time I shaved the beard off and the hair.”
