Police presence to increase with temperature at popular beach

EXPECT to see more men and women in blue along Scarborough Beach foreshore this summer, with police conducting regular patrols of the popular beachside precinct.

Scarborough Police last year maintained a presence on weekends over summer in an effort to curb crime.

Senior Sergeant Craig Wanstall said it made a “big difference” to the area and officers would again patrol on weekends, with an emphasis on Sundays.

“We’ve identified Sundays as having the biggest patronage down there,” he said.

“We’ll have a permanent police presence from 6pm to 2am on Sundays, and Saturdays as necessary.”

They will be supported by licensing enforcement officers and City of Stirling security.

Snr Sgt Wanstall said they were relatively pleased with visitors’ behaviour last year and would increase their presence on hot days and public holidays.
