A PASSION for textiles and prints is the inspiration behind emerging Perth designer Emma Ritchie’s label Pretty Pool Swimwear.

The Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club active lifeguard who studied fashion at the TAFE said she wanted to create a brand that would make young women feel good about themselves.

“The collection is inspired by growing up along the coast of Western Australia, pitching a tent by the beach,” she said.

“It’s all about hanging out with friends and making memories and also about letting girls be girls and good body image which is so important especially among teens!

“I designed it for girls between the ages of 14-20 targeting an untapped market the young teens, all the garments are designed for running, swimming, jumping off jetties.”

Designed and made in WA, Ritchie (22) uses recycled polyester from old fishnets and plastic items to create her garments.

“I did a lot of research on fabrics and use the recycled polyester Xtra Life Lycra is one of the best on the market,” she said.

“My real passion is for textiles, printing, graphic and design.”
