A $51 million contract for the Scarborough foreshore redevelopment was awarded to the same contractor working on the controversial Roe 8 project.
Deputy Premier Liza Harvey and Planning Minister Donna Faragher announced Georgiou Group would begin major forward works in the coming weeks.
Mrs Faragher said the WA based company had extensive experience in large civil works projects.
Ms Harvey unveiled artist impressions of the new children’s playground, designed around a whale skeleton reflecting the Whadjuk/Noongar stories of spirits returning to land through the whales.
The expected completion is early 2018, in time for Scarborough to host the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
