Rogue One: A Star Wars Story smashes pre-sale records in 10 minutes

ROGUE One: A Star Wars Story broke box office pre-sale ticket records in 10 minutes this week.

Just 10 minutes after tickets went on sale at 8am yesterday it became the highest and fastest selling pre-sale film of 2016 for Event Cinemas, with more than 8000 tickets feverishly snapped up by fans.

Almost 28, 878 tickets were sold Australia-wide in the first 24 hours, with more than 4000 sold in Perth alone.

The standalone Star Wars film, which is released on December 15, has already out-sold other 2016 box office hits such as Deadpool and Finding Dory.

Group managing director David Seargeant said due to the unprecedented demand, Event Cinemas would continue to monitor and schedule more sessions.

2016 pre-sale figures:

Deadpool sold 3,813 tickets after one week on pre-sale

Finding Dory sold 7,564 tickets after an entire pre-sale period

Captain America: Civil War sold 3,358 tickets after one week on pre-sale

Suicide Squad sold 3,911 tickets after one week on pre-sale
