SCARBOROUGH Police had one of their busiest nights this week, responding to multiple reports of stealing, business break-ins and fires.
Senior Sergeant Craig Wanstall described Tuesday night’s number of reports as “extraordinary”.
Officers were kept busy with 10 reports of stealing from motor vehicles, several more than usual, in Woodlands, Wembley Downs, Innaloo, Scarborough, Churchlands, Stirling and Osborne Park.
Items stolen included a handbag containing a passport, cash, laptop and iPad, while in one case the victim’s car was stolen.
The same night, police responded to burglaries at Karrinyup Dental Surgery, Odin Road Medical Centre in Innaloo and West Coast Dental Centre in Wembley Downs, though nothing was taken.
Cedric Street Dental Centre in Stirling was targeted the night before.
Snr Sgt Wanstall said there were multiple reports of fires in the early hours of Wednesday morning, starting with two cars set alight outside a home on Albert Street in Osborne Park.
Not long after, a fence outside a home further along the same street was set alight, followed by timber decking at the front of an Osborne Park hardware store.
Two skip bins outside a Hutton Street property were also found on fire.
At about 2.15am, a car fire was reported in Tuart Hill, and the vehicle was extensively damaged.
Two similar reports followed, with cars outside homes in David Close and Hector Street in Osborne Park set alight after the offender/s removed the fuel cap, inserted a rag or cloth and lit it.
Snr Sgt Wanstall said Arson Squad detectives visited the scene of all the fires and were investigating.
He encouraged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report any details of crimes to police on 131 444.
He also implored people to report any suspicious behaviour or stealing offences as soon as they occurred.
The Arson Squad is investigating the some of the incidents.
