Scarborough: You’ve got to hand it to foreshore’s new artwork

Laura PondStirling Times

A HUGE hand is one of six pieces of artwork to be installed along the Scarborough foreshore as part of redevelopment works.

The Ethereal Welcome Hand sculpture is between the surf club and pool.

According to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, it represents the Noongar custom where visitors show respect to an area by casting a handful of sand into the water to introduce themselves, as well as welcome spirits and ancestors to the waterway.
