A POPULAR Mexican food chain is coming to Balcatta.

The Metro North-West Development Assessment Panel has approved establishment of a service station and 7-Eleven store, Guzman Y Gomez and three other takeaway food outlets at the corner of Balcatta and Erindale roads.

The development will replace three existing commercial buildings on the site, including Toyworld.

Guzman Y Gomez will comprise a restaurant and drive-through.

The City of Stirling recommended approval, with conditions to address what it described as overdevelopment of the site and insufficient parking.

It suggested reducing the fast food or drive through outlets’ gross floor area by 50sq m and replacing with landscaping to meet requirements but City of Stirling councillor Bianca Sandri gained support to remove this condition as it was deemed not appropriate for the application.

The panel also removed two conditions restricting signage, despite the City’s report noting an “excessive number of signs”, but height restrictions were imposed on other signs.
