The initiative, now in its fifth year, encourages people to donate a piece of warm clothing for those in desperate need.
Karrinyup Shopping Centre marketing manager Claire Ridley said the Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal was a call-out to the Perth community to donate as many coats, jackets, jumpers, baby and children’s clothing, new blankets or doonas as possible for individuals and families less fortunate.
‘Every coat matters,’ she said.
‘By simply donating one warm item to the Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal, you will be making a big difference to those in need during the tougher months of winter.’
Red Shield Appeal community engagement representative Nigel Pitkin said simple life necessities deemed essential for living, such as clothing and food, have become a challenge for individuals and families most disadvantaged in the community.
‘People are regularly going without items, services and activities that are part of every- day living and important for full participation in community life,’ he said.
‘This is why initiatives such as Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal are so important and why every coat donated this year will count.’
All donated warm clothing and blankets must be in good condition, laundered and clean.
The collection bin is located at Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the Centre Court and will be open for donation until July 6.
