A POPULAR Scarborough Beach carpark is being privatised.

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is preparing to sell the Reserve Street carpark at the northeast corner of the beachside precinct, fronting West Coast Highway.

The site, which was managed by the City of Stirling on behalf of the State Government, has more than 110 bays and been used as a carpark since the 1970s.

A department spokes-man said the land was expected to hit the property market in June or July.

“The sale will ensure future use of the site is optimised and contribute to the activation of recently redeveloped Scarborough foreshore precinct,” the spokesman said.

“Any purchaser will be required to replicate existing public car parking within the future development, ensuring the existing use remains as well as activating the site.”

Property zoning will allow for mixed and commercial use on the ground floor of buildings.

The department will consider proposals for future uses of the site once it is marketed.
