OSBORNE PARK will be home to a state-of-the-art indoor skate park after City of Stirling council approved the $6 million project this week.

The 14,000sq m youth hub and skate plaza could be up and running in September or October, according to owner and developer Richard Kettle.

Mr Kettle said the public interest in the project had spiked on social media since the approval.

“I got a huge increase in my social media reach and I’ve had 127 new page likes since yesterday,” he said.

The council identified 18 conditions to the approval including waste management and landscaping plans.

Mr Kettle said the conditions were reasonable and he was “extremely happy” with the decision.

“I’m absolutely delighted, I think the requested conditions are fair and reasonable and exactly what we want to adopt with the community,” he said.

“Once we receive the formal notification it allows us to go out and seek the partnerships to make this happen.

“The funding elements need to be put in place so we need to identify the right partners the building is already there.”

Mr Kettle said a Kickstarter funding page would be available in the next two days, which would provide more details about the facility and offer early bird memberships.

“It will be a staged opening and the first stage will hopefully happen in September to October time, it is quite straightforward, it’s a matter of buying the equipment and getting it started.”

Mr Kettle said the youth hub was designed to host Olympic and international media events, as well as state and national competitions for skateboarding, BMX, parkour, free-running, sport climbing and trampolining.
