Stirling donates money to New Zealand earthquake relief effort

THE City of Stirling will donate $5000 to the New Zealand Red Cross for earthquake disaster relief.

Councillor Elizabeth Re put forward a motion to donate after New Zealand’s |South Island suffered a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which devastated houses, roads and shops.

“The City of Stirling has a long significant history over many years in supporting areas which have been subjected to natural disasters and given the significant New Zealand population currently residing in City of Stirling boundaries,” Cr Re said.

The funds will come from the City’s emergency relief payment account.
