STIRLING Hawks Cricket Club has donated their pre-loved cricket equipment to children at a Sri Lankan school.

The club decided to donate pre-loved gear to Divitura Maha Vidyalya, a school in the Galle district for underprivileged children.

Father Bede De Silva from the school said in an email the students were very grateful for the donation.

“The principal and the students are very grateful to you for your donation of sports materials,” he said.

“They humbly request to send them more cricket materials whenever possible.

“Thank you for your kind concern and love shown to this needy and less privileged school.”

Hawks life member Adrian Bonner said the club was moving clubrooms and had extra used equipment that needed to be replaced.

“The opportunity was there to either throw the gear out or to give it away and there are a few guys from Sri Lanka in the club,” he said.

“We were so happy to see the reaction of the students when they got all the gear.”

Mr Bonner said new members were needed for the upcoming season.

“It is a family friendly and welcoming club with a diverse range of people,” he said.
