Stirling mayor ‘deeply saddened’ by councillor’s death

STIRLING Mayor Mark Irwin says the City is “deeply saddened” by the death of Councillor Andrew Guilfoyle last night.

The father of three had been a Hamersley ward councillor since 2013 and was re-elected in 2017.

“Andrew was a passionate and dedicated councillor who was devoted to his community and many causes, in particular conserving our environment,” Cr Irwin said.

“His passing is a massive loss for the City and the community and he will be missed.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to Andrew’s family and would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Cr Guilfoyle was a psychologist and associate professor at Edith Cowan University and had a keen interest in environmental issues.

He was involved with various community groups and was formerly chairman at West Coastcare.
