CITY of Stirling Mayor Giovanni Italiano said party politics never got in the way of David Michael’s work on the council.

“I’ve been working with young David for years as my co-councillor and in that time he has grown to be the person he is today; the most honest and genuine person in his beliefs of what he can do for the community,” he said.

“All the time that he has worked on council he has always put the community first. He has never put party politics in the way and has never voted on anything based on party politics, it has always been about his genuine community concerns.”

Cr Italiano described Mr Michael as a “true gentleman” and a worthy person to fill the role as local member.

“I’m looking forward to working with him for the next four years because I know he has the community at heart,” he said.

Cr Italiano thanked outgoing Liberal for Balcatta Chris Hatton for his work over the four-year term.

“Chris Hatton has done his duty the best he could but the tables have turned on him; he did a great job in those four years as local member,” he said.

Cr Italiano said the City would not fill Mr Michael’s position on the Osborne ward but would wait until the October local election to resolve the situation.
