Suspicious blaze burns 3ha of Perth bushland

POLICE are investigating a suspicious fire that burnt three hectares of bushland in Dianella.

The blaze was reported on FridayJan 24 at 4.19pm in area between Dianella Drive and Gay Street, at the site of the former Channel 9 studios.

It took firefighters in 25 appliances two hours to bring the fire under control after it came close to houses.

Crews from fire stations including Osborne Park, Daglish, Malaga and Joondalup managed to extinguish the fire by 11pm but stayed on site patrolling the area and putting out spot fires until 4pm on Saturday.

There was concern for the quenda community living at adjacent Cottonwood Reserve but the City of Stirling said it did not reach the site.

Strike Force Vulcan officers are investigating and want to speak to the driver of an old, brown-coloured sedan that had been seen in the vicinity the last few months.

They also want to hear from anyone who was driving in the area between 4pm and 5pm and has dash-cam vision.
