Telethon centre opening to break down diabetes isolation

THE Telethon Type 1 Diabetes Centre officially opened last Thursday, marking a significant step forward in Type 1 treatment for West Australians.

The Osborne Park facility will provide peer and psychosocial support, information and education as well as opportunities for the type 1 community to connect.

Centre general manager Rebecca Johnson said the opening was a success.

It was a wonderful celebration and an opportunity to particularly thank our major supporters in the State Government, Telethon and Lotterywest, Ms Johnson said.

We offer workshops, camps, community forums and a range of fun social and educational events designed to break down the isolation type 1 can impose.

The centre will include a caf style kitchen for cooking classes, a childrens play area as well as six appointed clinic rooms.
