Tennis: Matthew Ebden defects frin Wembley Downs to join Mosman Park

FORMER Hale School student Matthew Ebden has defected from Wembley Downs Tennis Club to join WA State League winners Mosman Park.

Ebden, who was made an honorary member of Wembley Downs earlier this year, helped his new club come away as the strongest team in WA State League history after a win against Cottesloe on the weekend at the State League match. The Davis Cup player returned to the court after a knee injury kept him sidelined for most of the year, playing alongside teammates world number nine John Peers, Brydan Klein and Gavin Van Peperzeel.

Mosman Park were crowned champions after the 6-0 win.

Tennis West chief executive Michael Roberts said the match was huge for WA tennis.

“It is fantastic to see such a high calibre of athletes playing in the WA State league. It is a testament to the strength of the league, and the esteem in which it is held by some of the best players in Australia,” he said.

“This is one of the best line-ups in WA State League history.”
