Top fundraisers celebrate their healthy achievement

The amount is the highest raised by any other school in the country and principal Linda Knox said the students were excited to be recognised.

‘With a quarter of WA kids being overweight or obese, the promotion of healthy activities is something the school takes seriously,’ she said.

‘We’ve been successful at implementing healthy activities for our kids because we’ve fostered such a great partnership between our parents and our teachers.

‘They’re working closely together to ensure that the healthy lifestyles created by parents at home are supported by a healthy environment at school.

‘The money our school community has raised will go towards the development of a new nature playground, which will further enhance opportunities for physical activity at school.’

Mrs Knox said creating an environment where children had plenty of opportunities to be active during the school day, had both health and academic benefits.

The school also sold sunscreen instead of unhealthy fundraising options and recently revamped the canteen to include healthy food.
