Tuart Hill designer gets reality duo to design new store

Belinda CiprianoStirling Times

TUART Hill designer Kate Watts enlisted reality duo Carole and Russell Bramston to help design and fit out her new Coolbinia retail store for her label Only One Ashley.

The former House Rules contestants started work on the space last month, taking just over a month to complete and open to the public.

Ms Watts, who started the label to honour her daughter Ashley who died in 2009, said she wanted to create the space to take her online business to bricks and mortar and enable her to have more interaction with her customers.

“There is no growing without growth and there is demand of people wanting to try on my garments,” she said.

“I have looked at this store for two years and said if it is still available, it’s mine.

“From the moment I decided on the space I knew I wanted all round expertise in helping to bring my vision to reality.

“Carole and Russ come with a world of knowledge and know-how and having them help was the biggest blessing.”

Ms Watts said while Carole and Russell did most of the work, it was fun to get her hands dirty to create the perfect space.

“Russell did everything manual, including chopping the oversized counter in two only to reassemble it once inside,” she said.

“Carole helped with design direction and reassurance when needed.

“Sometimes you need someone to tell you yes or no and we both dabbled in the painting.

“From keys to opening was four weeks and it was a fairly smooth process.

“It was a fun journey – needless to say I am not cut out for manual labour.”

Open to the public, the new store features Ms Watts’ new collection “Only One Ashley White” affordable bridal wear, an off-the-rack collection and in-store tailoring service.

“The White Collection comes from my love of doing gowns and bringing the simplicity of one of my gowns to the modern bride,” she said.
