JOONDANNA residents are going green as part of the Waste to Wonderful Community Day at the Joondanna Community Garden on June 19.
Organiser and senior environmental scientist Janelle Atkinson said residents were encouraged to bring their green waste for composting at the community garden compost hub.
“Joondanna and surrounding suburbs are among the most densely populated suburbs in Perth so home composting is not always possible,” she said.
“The Waste to Wonderful community composting hub provides a place for people to bring their kitchen waste to convert it into something useful that benefits the local community.
Ms Atkinson said many businesses and residents were already contributing to the compost.
“Lots of what we throw in the bin can have an alternative purpose – turning kitchen scraps into compost has many benefits, including reduced landfill, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and reduced costs for the home gardener.
“We’d like to encourage more people to get on board to make a positive local environmental impact.”
