WATERMANS Bay firefighter Christopher Stefanetti is aiming to bring his enthusiasm and physical strength to Ellenbrook Fire Station after graduating from a recruitment program.

Mr Stefanetti (26) finished the Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ (DFES) 18-week program on August 4.

Mr Stefanetti said he improved on his teamwork, following instructions and problem solving during training.

“It has always been a lifelong dream of mine but I was not really sure what to do with my life,” he said.

“Obviously during school, everyone is kind of in the head space of going to university and that sort of route.

“Until I got out of school, I started realising what life was about and how it feels to accomplish something and help others.”

Mr Stefanetti said he wanted to use his youth to motivate older firefighters at the station.

Outgoing Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Wayne Gregson said 263 trainees in 11 schools have joined the WA firefighting family in the last six years.

“They understand and support each other’s individual strengths and have helped one another to overcome their weaknesses,” he said.

“They will regularly see and experience things that will test their resolve…to be here ready to take on that challenge requires a great deal of compassion and commitment.”
