WATERMANS Bay resident Hilda Audas has shared a World War II-era photo depicting WA’s war history.

The 1941 photo shows Ms Audas opposite her family’s Watermans Bay home, where she still lives nearly 80 years later, with a light horseman on the beach behind her.

“West Coast Drive was then called The Esplanade,” she said.

“In the background is a light horseman, one of those who patrolled our beaches.

“They used to have a big feather in their hat.”

Members of the 10th Australia Light Horse Regiment used to patrol the coastline during World War II before the regiment was disbanded in 1944.
