WORK is underway to construct a new northbound exit lane from the Mitchell Freeway to ease congestion and improve traffic flow.

The lane will be between Cedric Street and Karrinyup Road in north Perth.

Federal Minister for Major Projects, Territories and Local Government Paul Fletcher said the new lane was due for completion in June.

“Once construction is completed, there will be a noticeable improvement to traffic flows on this section of the freeway, particularly in afternoon peak periods,” Mr Fletcher said.

State Transport Minister Dean Nalder said similar improvements to the Mitchell Freeway were continuing as part of the Australian and Western Australian governments’ priority to address congestion problems.

“We have looked at conflict points along the freeway and identified opportunities where we can allow vehicles to exit without disrupting traffic flow,” Mr Nalder said.

“The dedicated exit lanes are clearly marked prior to the freeway off-ramp to ensure motorists have enough time to move into the correct lane early.”
