KARRINYUP Shopping Centre will be expanding after the Metro North-West Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) approved an application on Friday.
The expansion will increase the size of the centre from 64,000sq m to 113,093sq m and includes new retail, dining and entertainment areas and community spaces.
City of Stirling Mayor Giovanni Italiano said he was delighted with the decision and welcomed the $600 million investment in the City.
Its an exciting time for the City of Stirling with projects of this scale getting the go-ahead, Cr Italiano said.
In dollar value, its the largest development approved in the City of Stirling in the past decade.
The bulk of the 93,548sq m development will feature an expansion of existing major tenants and many new retail shops.
On the plans are also a new main street and piazza area, which will feature new dining options.
In addition, 134 multiple dwellings are proposed on the west and northeastern parts of the site.
New parking areas will increase the number of on-site bays by 1716, taking the total to 4882 car parking bays.
With the project set to provide 2500 permanent jobs, its a huge boost for our economy and its great for the state economy, Cr Italiano said.
