Hazard on wheels

Senior citizens are forced to navigate these obstacles as they make their way from their cars to the shops.

Recently, I found it necessary to assist an elderly man and his wheelchair-bound wife, in heavy rain, struggling to negotiate a walkway where several trolleys were blocking their path.

I am sure most people who dump trolleys rather than return them to the bays provided would never be involved in road rage, break and entry, stealing or wilful destruction of property, but in my view, such careless, thoughtless practices place them in the same category.

Discarded trolleys put lives at risk of injury or worse, damage vehicles and leave our shopping centre car parks cluttered and untidy, reflecting poorly throughout our beautiful city.

Let us be more thoughtful and demonstrate some common courtesy, decency, respect and understanding towards one another, and our community will benefit by becoming a safer and even more appealing place to live.
