Opinion: City of Stirling abusing its own verge by-laws

Denis Vause, KarrinyupStirling Times

I BELIEVE the City of Stirling is abusing its own verge by-laws.

The by-law states: Where there is no footpath, a pedestrian has safe and clear access of a minimum width of two metres along that part of the verge immediately adjacent to the kerb.

I have complained over time about vegetation on the verge at the corner of Davenport and Pike streets in Karrinyup.

This vegetation will cause hazards to pedestrians and also motorists entering and exiting motor vehicles while visiting medical specialists in the area.

At present the plants are small, but in time they will grow much larger.

The council says it does not intend to remove the hazards, as advised by a verge control officer.

It is the chief executive’s responsibility to ensure by-laws are adhered to.
