Opinion: Why no objection to 40-storey commercial tower?

Arthur Smith, DoubleviewStirling Times

I am astounded that there has not been a massive public objection to the referral by the Stirling City Council for the consideration of the removal of the current eight storeyed limit, to permit the construction of a FORTY storeyed commercial tower by an Asiatic financial conglomerate.

The current Westminster is based on ‘precedent’ and once a single tower is approved beyond the current limit, others are bound to follow, and I fear that Scarborough beach will suffer as a result.

Apart from the obvious traffic difficulties currently being experienced, the potential shadow of the moving sun from tower(s) will detract morning beachgoers from the area.

I do not regard myself as a ‘detractor’ from progress in any way, being a resident since 1952, contributor to many community services including Secretary of the Scarborough Rate Payer Association in 1953.
