Duncraig apartments offer ‘forever living’ for downsizers

Staff WriterStirling Times

FINDING the right home when downsizing can be difficult, according to Carine Developments director Michelle Lawrence.

She said not everyone looking to move from the family home wanted to think about moving to a retirement home or aged-care villa.

“Retirement living attracts large entry, exit and weekly fees which can make it prohibitive for many. They also lack the benefits of multi-generational living,” she said.

“Many people I have met found their retirement home limiting, with adult children unable to stay overnight with their parents due to the age restriction of their dwelling.

“As a result people often stay in their family home well beyond their physical capabilities and by default end up in an aged-care home prematurely.”

Designed to offer a new option for downsizers, Prestige Apartments addresses ‘forever living’, providing homes to suit their occupants at any stage in life.

The development includes 21 apartments with a mix of three-bedroom two-bathroom, two-bedroom two-bathroom, and two-bedroom one-bathroom residences.

They have a range of features that enable occupants to get the most out of life at any age and any stage.

Wider doorways, adaptable kitchens, spacious living areas flush to deep, covered balconies, hobless bathrooms and lift access are just some of the future-proof features that will allow occupants to enjoy their home ‘forever’.

The homes will include quality finishes such as solid timber flooring, pure wool carpets, titanium tapware and stone benchtops.

Sustainability and community have also been addressed with energy-efficient light fittings, smart meters, solar panels for common areas, waterwise landscaping and a rooftop garden with communal barbecue area.

The development has been awarded a Gold standard in livable housing through Livable Housing Australia.

“Good design is a home that doesn’t need modification if physical needs change,” Ms Lawrence said.

“Prestige Apartments are designed for people to live in now while they’re healthy and able, as well as allowing for care to be provided in the comfort of their own home in a dignified way when and if they need it.

“For instance, as well as enabling family to stay, the second bedroom provides for those who might require a live-in carer.

“All rooms are designed to allow for assistance with everyday activities such as cooking, showering and moving about their home, either independently or with support.”

Ms Lawrence said it would offer something unique in the Carine/Duncraig area.

“Unlike other villas in the area, every apartment enjoys a stunning elevation that I like to think will remain timeless,” she said.

“The mix of full-height glazing, face brick and wrought iron reflect the materials found locally.”

Ms Lawrence said the location allowed “residents to live within their neighbourhood”.

“The location is so well connected to everything – shops, leisure, entertainment, parks, beaches and transport,” she said.

“There is a bus stop at the doorstep, shopping centre within walking distance, health and medical amenities, and specialty stores.”

Prestige Apartments is at 449-453 Beach Road, Duncraig, on the border of Carine.

Prices start from $499,000.
