MORE than 7000 surf life savers from 313 surf clubs from across Australia will compete in 400 events in the ocean and on the beach at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships from April 16.

Jade Mickle and Jayde Hardstaff from City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club will compete in the nine-day championships, affectionately known as the Aussies.

The pair hold a total of 32 medals between them from the recent WA Surf Life Saving Championships held at Scarborough Beach, with 11 gold, four silver and one bronze medal each.

On average, they commit 17 to 20 hours a week, training in the pool, on the sand and in the surf.

Both Jade and Jayde are looking forward to travelling with the rest of the City team to the Aussies and representing WA.

“The event is unlike anything else. There are so many competitors, competition arenas and clubs all in one location,” Jayde Hardstaff said.

“It’s such a great atmosphere and you get to pit yourself against the countries best. That is what we are both, most looking forward to.”

The two girls will compete across board, ski, swim, iron woman and team events in their quest for gold and hope to bring back the medals.

“We have been training together for over five years and we both love to compete for our club” Jade Mickle said.

“We are just hoping to be able to recreate some of our winning form on the Maroochydore Beach and bring back the gold.”
