ELITE athletes from Gold Martial Arts in Balcatta took home 23 medals between them at last month’s WA Karate League Shobukan Open.

Athletes from suburbs including Balcatta, Bayswater, Beechboro, Dianella, Gwelup, Hamersley, Landsdale, Morley, North Perth, Sorrento, Stirling, Tuart Hill and Wembley Downs, competed at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup on June 24.

Chief instructor Mark Golding said the competition was an “outstanding” finish to the season which brought the club 60 medals.

“The highlight of the event was the consistency in performance and spread of medals across both disciplines – kata and kumite,” he said.
