Dianella father and daughter strike gold in taekwondo

A DIANELLA father and daughter taekwondo duo have brought home three gold medals and a world championship while making a lasting impression on the international martial arts community.

Sonya Ratten (12) attended 2016 Australian National Taekwondo Championships and took home the gold medal and her father Ashley Ratten won the Open World Championship in Birmingham, England.

Sonya also represented Australia in Malaysia and Fiji and won bronze and Silver in 12-14 girls’ cadets division.

“I was working very hard and training up to 10-12 times a week on top of keeping up study for my first year at high school so was very hard,” she said.

“I was very proud to win the nationals in Bendigo and therefore represent Australia internationally, so to actually medal in my first international tournaments was the best feeling in the world.”
