The women’s side finished with 11 wins and 11 losses last season, taking them to sixth on the ladder and bowing out to the Wanneroo Wolves in the quarter-finals.
This season Ellis hopes the side can improve and go deep into the finals campaign.
‘So far pre-season has been a little disappointing as we have had most of our main players away, injured or elsewhere,’ he said.
‘We have lost some key players including Sam Roscoe, Maddy Dennis and Kelly Ellis which puts a big hole in a team but we have gained Emma and Lauren Berryman in the guard positions and Taylor Bestry who has been training really well and adds a lot more firepower in many positions.
‘They have been fantastic additions adding scoring and leadership along with team morale and toughness.’
As for the men’s side head coach Dave Lindstrom said he was hoping their hard-nose approach would improve last year’s 12th placing.
‘The pre-season is going good,’ he said.’Practices are intense and very competitive and hopefully we can make it to the playoffs and then anything can happen.’
