Get skates on for ice sports day

Ice Syncro secretary Catherine Fleay said the day was an excellent opportunity for people who had never properly tried ice sports to immerse themselves in the action in a positive learning environment.

‘There are not too many opportunities to allow you to hit a hockey puck around an ice rink, skate fast with safety mats lining the rink barrier or have a go at skating in a travelling circle with 15 other people.

‘It has never been offered before at Xtreme Ice Arena and to the best of our knowledge is a first for rinks in Perth to have all four disciplines all together at the same time,’ Ms Fleay said.

The free event will run from 4.45pm to 7.45pm at the Mirrabooka ice rink and Ms Fleay urged people to try one of the many sports on offer.

She said ice sports were a fantastic way of developing friendships and communities.

‘There is a strong sense of community at the rink, not only within the disciplines, but also across the disciplines,’ she said.

‘All understand each other’s love of feeling the ice under your blades and the freedom of movement you have.’
