Golf: Johnston to bring personality to World Super 6 at Lake Karrinyup

Denise S. CahillStirling Times

ANDREW Johnston will join the line-up at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 at Lake Karrinyup Country Club on Thursday.

Golf professional and Claremont resident John Ince said Johnston, from the UK, had played in the European and US tours last year and would bring plenty of personality to Perth.

Reigning champion Brett Rumford from WA is back to defend last year’s title and played at the course last week to get familiar with the new greens.

Top players vying for the $1.75 million prize money include Danny Willett, Tyrrell Hatton and Lee Westwood.

Ince said that Willett, who won the US Masters in 2016, was the top drawcard for the tournament but was presently a shade out of form, missing the cut in his last event.

Hatton finished third in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at 20 under par and is 15th in the world’s rankings while Westwood finished the recent Maybank Championship in Malaysia in 10th position on 15th under par.

“Don’t be fooled, Westwood is a player to watch,” Ince said.

“Other players to watch are Ryan Fox (New Zealand), Jason Scrivener (WA), Marcus Fraser (NSW), Thorbjorn Olsen (Denmark) and Min Woo Lee (WA).”
