COMPETITORS battled 2.5m waves and powerful surf at the WA Bodyboard Titles on Saturday.

Scarborough and Trigg bodyboarders took on Margaret River locals for the state championship titles at Gas Bay in Gnarabup.

The local talent was too strong, with Margaret River’s Ben Veitch becoming the men’s state champion ahead of Kai De Legh (Scarborough), Joel Hughan (Trigg) and Brendan Gabel (Scarborough).

Hughan finished third in the under-18 junior men’s competition and De Legh won Air of the Day for the event’s best tube ride, where he scored 9.5 out of 10. Veitch, Ziggy Bulloch and Max McGregor will represent WA at the national titles in August.
