Margaret River claims The Surf Boardroom Surf League title

Neil Atkinson, The Surf BoardroomStirling Times

THE Surf Boardroom Surf League is the biggest and most prestigious inter club surfing event on the WA coast and this year’s event was no exception.

Held on Saturday, September 22, the state’s top eight boardriding clubs battled it out in clean 2-3ft surf on Scarborough Beach.

In warm and sunny conditions, Margaret River Boardriders excelled as they fought their way in to the final.

Despite some dynamic surfing from Yallingup, Trigg and Scarborough it was the team from Margarets that once again got their hands on the trophy with an excellent heat score of 84.53.

The Surf League forms an integral part of the WA surfing scene, and 2018 is the 26th consecutive year that local surf retailer The Surf Boardroom has been the main sponsor of the iconic and much loved event.

Former touring professional Dave Macaulay, of Gracetown in our South West, hasn’t surfed competitively on the international scene for many years, but in an outstanding performance he claimed his first world title when he recently took out the Men’s World Masters Championship.

This is an amazing achievement for this highly respected surfer and board shaper who is currently travelling the world in his role as the coach of his daughter Bronte Macaulay, WA’s only surfer on the World Championship tour.
