The Hamersley resident took out six medals from seven races ” gold in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke, silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke.

Maya’s performances ensured she clinched the state titles in the 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

The East Hamersley Primary School student, who has been a member of the Leisurepark Lazers for two years, said she was happy to also be one of the fastest.

‘It means a lot and it might be another step towards the Olympics,’ Maya said.

With the Olympics in her sights, Maya hopes to mirror the swimming career of her role model and Olympic medallist Blair Evans.

For now, the pint-sized swimmer is training for the Junior Long Course State Championships next April.
