A RECENTLY released film served as inspiration for open day events at North Beach Tennis Club.

The club re-enacted a doubles version of the classic tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, which is the subject of the Hollywood movie Battle of the Sexes.

Kay-Leigh Nicholas and Shona Schwarz of the club’s State grade ladies league team did battle with older male stalwarts Rod Burton and John Palfrey for the exhibition match.

Mr Horne said the October 14 event attracted more than 100 players and visitors.

People can also try out the club’s facilities on November 25 at the corner of Wilberforce and Kitchener streets in North Beach.
