Perth karate duo undefeated in 2019

DESPITE a 30-year age gap, two students from Balcatta’s Gold Martial Arts share an achievement in common.

Noranda 10-year-old Isabella Martin and Lester Maru John (40), of Nollamara, have finished the year undefeated in State and national competitions.

Both were undefeated in four WA Karate League events held throughout the year, most recently the WA Open in September, as well as the State championships in April and national championships held in Tasmania in August.

Isabella competes in the children’s kumite category and has been training under instructor Mark Golding for five years, while John has been at the academy for four years and competes in the veterans kata category.
