Perth martial arts students top of their game

STUDENTS from Balcatta’s Gold Martial Arts had a strong showing at the latest WA Karate League competition on June 30.

The club picked up nine gold, four silver and two bronze medals at the competition.

Students Laura Golding, Lester Maru John, Isabella Martin, Benjamin Quinn and Cameron Quinn have been selected to represent WA at the national championships in Tasmania from August 2 to 4.

In taekwondo, 13-year-old Dianella brothers Alex and Liam Egan recently returned from the Gold Coast where they competed at the Australian Open and international Presidents Cup competition.

Alex won his first medal at an international competition with gold at the Presidents Cup in the cadet under 53kg category and bronze in the same decision in the national competition.

Liam lost his Presidents Cup match and had to forfeit his other because of concussion after a bad fall.
