FORMER Newman College alumnus Daniel Ricciardo will be back in his hometown of Perth as part of the Perth Speed Fest on Sunday.

The headline act for the event, the Formula 1 star will take to the track in his Red Bull Racing RB7 2011 world-championship winning car, before lining up to go head-to-head against the top cars three times during the day in the ultimate test of speed.

Ricciardo who just finished sixth in the Abu Dhabi Gran Prix said he was reasonably happy with the season and had big hopes for 2016.

“I’m happy with parts of it and not as happy with others,” he said.

“I would still say that my highs overcame the lows – so it was still a good season.”

The fan favourite with a million dollar smile said he was looking forward to coming home for the festive season where he would be spending it with family and friends.

He added the weather and water was something he missed while overseas.

“And I like the fact that you can just travel for 30 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to hanging out with friends, camping, fishing, riding and just having a good and relaxed time really.”

Perth Speed Fest, will be held on Sunday at Perth Motorplex and will showcase 60 separate events including 25 motorsport disciplines demonstrated on five customised tracks.
